Goat Fainting

Yes, they really do faint! Fainting Goats were introduced in the 1880s in Marshall County, Tennessee.

Myatonia is the genetic condition that causes Fainting Goats to lock up and/or fall over when startled. They remain rigid for about 10 to 15 seconds, then arise in a stiff manner, shortly returning to normal goat movement. (This condition is not hazardous to the goat's heath; it is simply a unique reaction to the species.)

Adult Fainting Goats range in size from 17" to 23", with does having a more feminine build and bucks having a heavier, more masculine build.

Fainting Goats have calm dispositions. They're hardy and good grazers, and Fainting Goat does are good mothers.

Fainters make good pets.

Fainting Goat bucks cross well with does of other breeds to produce muscular kids.
